1881 Golding Pearl No 1 5×8

Offered for sale here is a freshly restored Golding Pearl No 1 5x8 letterpress. This press is a rarely seen variant of this model as it includes its original shipping crate as a base (an option from the Golding factory).

The press has undergone a full Elderly Pressworks restoration, the scope of which includes:

1. New paint

2. New rollers and trucks (originals included)

3. Newly machined roller hooks and springs (originals included)

4. Newly machined main shaft

5. Sourced original roller frame to replace broken/welded one (original included)

6. Sourced original ink disc advance lever to replace broken original (original included)

6. All oilways cleaned/cleared

7. New oak feed table

As she stands now, this press is working smoothly and is ready for another 100 years of printing. She would also make a wonderful addition to any letterpress collection. The last of this model I’m aware of that came up for sale was back in 2014 … you’ll have to look long and hard to find another.

A renowned historian and collector tells me that he know of only five of this model that exist: three (!) in his personal collection, one in a museum, and this one.
